Coil Cover

These pictures are of an aluminum coil cover I fabricated for my 1990 FXR. It’s made three pieces of aluminum. I started with two 6 inch diameter round aluminum discs and machined them down until the coil fit into them the way I wanted and the pieces had a true radius.

Then I took a piece of 3003 aluminum sheet .060″ thick and welded it to the two parts I made. I wanted the radius to be true and perfectly round. Everytime I have seen a coil cover it is usually squared off.

I also chose to have the bolts that mount the coil to the bracket come from the inside so they are hidden for a clean look. I machined a holder for my ignition switch and welded it to the bottom of the coil cover.

I thought it came out well and am pleased with it.
