Pole Taper Machine

Here are a couple of photos of me using the Mattison surface grinder to machine parts from the Noble pole taper machine that Condor Machine rebuilt for Dicke Tool. The Mattison grinder was manufactured in the 1940s in Rockford, Illinois and it’s an awesome machine. These old machines have so much thought put into them. The way they’re built and designed is so cool to me.

The next two photos are of the finished pole taper machine. Gerard Wozniak, owner of Condor Machine, said that Dicke was very happy with the finished product. I think it’s cool how people want to preserve these old machines and keep them going. Preserving this history is very important to transfer knowledge and communicate how things were done in the past. Working on these machines is a great way to keep in touch with the past.
